Company winter party in La Rochelle, the guide

What is a company winter party?

A winter party is the company celebration moved to after the holidays. It takes place between the second week of January and the end of February, often on a Thursday evening, and plays the role of the end-of-year party without its constraints.

Some companies make it their only festive event of the winter. Others combine it with the management’s New Year wishes or a kick-off, to bring the team together around the goals ahead. Either way, it is an evening that rebuilds connections after a two-week break.

Why choose January rather than December?

December squeezes all of La Rochelle’s company parties into three weeks. Thursdays and Fridays are gone by October, prices follow demand, and employees’ diaries fill up with family dinners and travel. January and February offer the opposite.

CriterionDecember party Winter party
Period Late November to mid-December Mid-January to the end of February
Venue availability Very tight, book from October More flexible, a request in November is usually enough
Team's diary Busy, holidays and time off Freer after the return to work
What the party brings Celebrating the year gone by Getting the team going and launching the year
What Bomb Squad brings Game then reception in the same place One hour of action to get everyone moving again

There is also a question of rhythm. In December, the company party lands in the middle of an already festive period and blends into the rest. In January, it falls at a quiet time, which makes it more anticipated and better attended.

What schedule for a successful winter party?

A good winter party comes in two parts, an activity that mixes the teams, then a reception where the evening carries on. Without the first part, everyone ends up with the colleagues they see every day and the evening looks like a department drinks.

At Bomb Squad La Rochelle, a typical schedule for a group of 30 people looks like this.

  • Group welcome. Participants arrive and settle in the reception area.
  • Group briefing. A quarter of an hour later, the rules are explained and the teams of 2 to 6 players are formed.
  • Rotating play. A team sets off every fifteen minutes for one hour of play, four challenges of communication, logic, agility and endurance, then the final bomb. Meanwhile, the others enjoy the bar.
  • Cocktails and debrief. The scores come in and the ranking is discussed over the buffet or the cocktail reception.

Allow two and a half to three hours for the whole event, welcome and cocktails included. It is a short evening, which suits a Thursday in January well.

After the holidays, a physical activity also has more impact than standing around with a drink. One hour of running, crawling and aiming as a team wakes a group up better than a speech. The venue is indoors and air-conditioned, so January weather changes nothing.

Which venue for an original winter party in La Rochelle?

A winter party venue is chosen on three criteria, capacity, an activity on site and easy access for a scattered team.

  • Real capacity. Check how many people the venue can host at the same time, not just its floor area. A 200 m² venue can welcome 50 people for cocktails but have 30 people play per time slot.
  • An activity on site. Following the activity with the reception without changing address avoids losing part of the group between two venues, especially on a winter evening.
  • Access. A central venue served by several metro lines makes it easier for employees coming from different sites.

An original venue is mostly a question of format. An evening that starts with a team mission stands out clearly from a privatised restaurant or bar, which make up most of what La Rochelle offers for company parties.

The questions we get asked

Where can you hold a winter party in La Rochelle?

For a winter party where the team plays before moving on to the reception, Bomb Squad La Rochelle, in La Rochelle, welcomes up to 60 participants in 200 m² available for private hire. The activity and the cocktail reception take place in the same venue, with no travel between two locations.

When should you hold a winter party?

Between mid-January and the end of February. The first two weeks of January are often taken up by the return to work, and the period that follows is the easiest time to bring the whole team together

When should you book your winter party?

A request in November is usually enough for a date in January or February, compared with October for a party in December.

What budget should you plan per person?

The Bomb Squad activity starts at €25 per person, depending on team size, the mission chosen and the time slot. Privatisation and catering are added on a quote, sent within 24 hours.

How long does a winter party at Bomb Squad last?

Two and a half to three hours for the whole event, including welcome, briefing, rotating play and cocktails. Each team plays for one hour.

Do you need to be sporty to take part?

No. The challenges involve moving around, crawling and aiming, but they alternate with memory and logic sequences. Mission Foam, which is more cerebral, suits teams who prefer less physical effort.
